Child and Vulnerable Person Safeguarding Policy

We live in a fallen world where sin has infected creation and the heart of humanity. Therefore, we understand that there are individuals who have a past and the sins of their past have affected their present. We desire to love all people regardless of their sins, for we "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:2). The grace of God can transform the heart of any person and "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).

We desire to be a biblical church that is "kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave us" (Ephesians 4:32). An authentic born again believer is forgiven and for those in Christ there is no condemnation (Romans 8:1), they are "a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come" (2 Corinthians 5:17). "Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work" (2 Timothy 2:2).

However, there are sins in our past that leave consequences in this present life. Sexual Offenders may pay for their sins incarcerated and after their release may be required to register as an (RSO), a Registered Sex Offender. Along with registration, they may have restrictions where they can go, live and work. Sonshine Fellowship Church and all of our ministries including Iglesia Luz de Cristo and Sonshine Christian Academy take these matters seriously. We desire to love those with a horrible past, but we also will do everything we can to protect children and vulnerable persons. As a result of our commitment to the safety and well-being of children and vulnerable persons involved in our ministry work, we have implemented our Child and Vulnerable Person Safeguarding Policy. This Child and Vulnerable Person Safeguarding Policy was developed to protect children and vulnerable persons from abuse, neglect, and other forms of mistreatment in all aspects of Sonshine Fellowship Church's ministry in the United States and overseas. Any abuse defined in our policy will be handled quickly and will be reported to the appropriate authorities. Any person desiring to visit our church to worship on Sundays, depending on their legal restrictions MUST sign and abide by the "Conditional Attendance Policy and Agreement." Failure to sign or abide by this agreement and policy will result in church discipline outlined in our policy and in the Word of God.
